Botox / Dysport / Xeomin

You laugh, you frown, and you concentrate. Over time, those expressions leave their mark upon your face.

Wrinkles around the eyes (“crow’s feet”), between the eyebrows (“glabellar frown lines”), and across the forehead occure because of contractions of underlying facial muscles. These simple injections are a non surgical procedure that can dramatically reduce these wrinkles. There are three brands of prescriptive botulinum toxin: Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. Frequently Asked Questions About Botox, Dysport & Xeomin
Is it Safe?

Yes! These injections have been available for 20 years and have been used to treat many diseases. In fact, it is used in children as young as 2 years old to treat cerebral palsy. These children receive over 10 times the amount used for cosmetic purposes – EVERY 3 MONTHS. If a 2 year old child is safe (with significantly more injections given to them) – you will be very safe. This safety has been proven repeatedly over the past 20 years through extensive testing and research. These injections are approved by both the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as well as the Health Protection Branch of Canada.

How does it work?

Botox, Dysport & Xeomin are injected directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. They work by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

When will I see results from a treatment?

Most patients see improvement in 3 to 5 days. Lines continue to improve for a week or two, and results typically last for up to 4 months.

How long does it last?

Results from treatment with Botox, Dysport & Xeomin can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.

Is treatment painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, a topical numbing medicine can be applied if you so desire. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people are in and out of the physician’s office without downtime following Botox, Dysport or Xeomin treatments.

Who is not a candidate for these injections?

It should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Since opening The Woodruff Institute in 2004, Botox, Dysport & Xeomin have been used to treat thousands of patients. Our injection techniques allow treatment that will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes wrinkling is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles.

What will happen to the wrinkles if I choose not to continue treatments?

If you do not continue Botox, Dysport or Xeomin treatments, the wrinkles will gradually look like they did before treatment.
